The design directions are intended to provide inspiration for how designers and developers might satisfy the System Requirements. We provide rationale for various design decisions along with feedback from user evaluations. These designs are platform agnostic and do not consider technical feasibility.

Context

Since the scope of the multitasking overall is quite large, we focused on a subset of the requirements (indicated in below mind map with yellow stars). These were prioritized based on what has been least explored in the industry so far.

In order to validate these system requirements, we had to come up with a scenario that users could empathize with. When recruiting users, we filtered for some level of familiarity with the way VR/AR works today. Since the idea behind augmenting virtual reality is quite novel even in the XR community, we wanted people to at least be familiar with the way the technologies exist today and their limitations.

For the example scenario we used in validating these requirements, we asked the user to imagine they have opened a real estate VR environment (i.e Zillow or Trulia) representing an apartment they are about to move into.

Without leaving the VR real estate application, the user can use the multi application system to augment the scene with furniture options they are shopping for using store applications (for example Ikea, Wayfair, Amazon etc.)
